Giving Forests a Voice: Why I Work at the Intersection of Science and Technology

Forests are the lungs of our planet and the backbone of global biodiversity. As climate change accelerates, they face unprecedented threats—wildfires, disease, and shifts in climate that can fundamentally reshape entire ecosystems. But how do we know what’s happening, and how can we respond in time?

This question is at the heart of my research and career. I believe technology can give forests a voice. By combining satellite imagery, digital mapping (GIS), and the power of machine learning, we can see the big picture: tracking subtle changes in forest health, mapping land-cover change, and forecasting future risks.

I’m motivated by a simple but urgent goal—to keep a pulse on the health of our ecosystems, understand the story hidden in our landscapes, and use science to help communities and policymakers become better stewards of our planet. Collaboration is key: I aim to share data, build practical tools, and work with others who care about protecting our world.

In this blog, I’ll share stories and insights from my journey in environmental science, remote sensing, and GIS. Whether you’re a student, researcher, policymaker, or simply curious, I hope you’ll find something here that sparks your interest—or even inspires you to get involved.

Stay tuned for future posts about the latest in geospatial science, my ongoing projects, and practical tips for using data to understand the changing Earth.
